HOBBS, NM – Fifty-two percent of the money Congressman Harry Teague (NM-02) took in during 2009 came from special interest PACs and Democrat leaders. Only $25,000 Teague took in the entire year came from small donors in New Mexico.
Campaign spokeswoman Alicia Collins stated; "Harry Teague continues to build his campaign on big checks from DC lobbyists and out-of-touch leaders of his party. It may take until November, but Teague will eventually realize this Congressional seat is not owned by D.C. insiders and special interests. Teague's fund-raising remains lackluster even though Vice-President Biden appeared at a fund-raising event for Teague in the4th quarter. New Mexicans are not responding favorably to the far left agenda in Washington."
The information below has been taken from Federal Election Commission year end reports that were due by January 31st:
Pearce once again out-raised Teague:
- Teague received 188,511total contributions for the 4th Quarter.
- Pearce received $252,363in total contributions for the 4th Quarter.
Teague continues to depend heavily on PACs and his Democrat leaders in Congress:
- 52% of all money Teague reported receiving was from PACs.
- 13% of all money Pearce reported receiving was from PACs.
Pearce received greater support from small donors:
- $25,038 of Teague’s annual fund-raising total came from small donors who gave less than $200, which is just 2% of all money raised.
- $103,136 and 14% of Pearce's 2009 fund-raising total came from small donors who gave less than $200.
Collins added, "Steve Pearce and generous support of nearly 2,000 hard-working New Mexican donors who share his commitment to creating jobs, cutting spending and reining in the government. While Teague had six months longer than Pearce to raise money from New Mexicans, Teague's financial report simply does not reflect strong in-state support. The reasons are quite clear. Teague has voted for policies that are killing New Mexican jobs and he continues to support out-of-control spending."
