This Past Thursday I had the honor of being the guest speaker for the Jefferson Montessori Academy graduation. When I first visited Jefferson Montessori Academy a few years back they were renting out two buildings to accommodate their students.  Now the Jefferson Montessori Academy and the Community of Carlsbad have a beautiful new building to call their own. With the leadership and dedication that is given by the Board of trustees, directed by Dr. Gregory Roselle, the faculty and staff led by Cindy Holguin (C.E.O), Jefferson Montessori Academy is a prime example of an outstanding charter schools in the state of New Mexico.

When I had the opportunity of meeting the faculty and staff at JMA I was introduced to a kindergarten teacher who reminded me how to figure out the area of a parallelogram and hexagon. It’s amazing what kids learn at such a young age. How many of your Kindergarteners can do that kind of geometric calculation?

During the ceremony the graduates had the opportunity to speak in which they all did an outstanding job. I remember a student saying that he owed so much to the JMA staff because they believed in him. It is amazing how much one person can inspire the life of a young one if you just believe in them. Like I stated in my speech to the graduates, one person can make a difference. The class motto said a lot about these students, “Wherever you go, whatever you do, make sure you do it with all of your heart.” This was quite a remarkable and inspiring motto and I hope they carry it with them in the future. I enjoyed being a part of this great occasion and wish the Jefferson Montessori Academy class of 2010 great success in the future.
