The Constitution is the single most important document in our civil lives.  Too often recently, we have strayed from its guiding principles. Politicians in Washington have gotten comfortable bending and twisting the Constitution to advance their political agendas.  We need to return to the concepts and wisdom that our forefathers bestowed upon us more than 200 years ago. The Constitution is our guardian as it:

  • protects our freedom of speech, including against radical leftists who demand a so-called political correct nation
  • protects our right to prayer and against the government halting expressions of faith
  • protects our right to bear arms
  • protects our right to property, despite what the Supreme Court said in its wrongheaded Kelo decision

 Dear Friends:

As we celebrate Independence Day, it is a great opportunity to reflect on the ideals that have made our country great.  As our forefathers wrote:

By David Barton:

234 years ago, 56 Founding Fathers pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor - putting literally  their lives, their monies, and their reputations on the line - to guarantee freedom for future generations. Because of their sacrifices, America is still the longest on-going constitutional republic in the history of the world. This is a blessing that we too often take for granted.

Typical Fourth of July celebrations include cookouts, firework shows, days at amusement parks, or any other number of frivolous activities. However, when the Founders reflected on what they felt upcoming Fourth of July celebrations might - and should - look like, John Adams said it should also be a day when we remembered God's hand in deliverance and a day of religious activities when we committed ourselves to Him in "solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty."

The importance of remembering God's Hand in American independence was passed from generation to generation – illustrated by John Quincy Adams' famous 1837 oration in which he reminded Americans:

U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb determined that a national day of prayer---is unconstitutional. In her decision, she commented, "...[R]ecognizing the importance of prayer to many people does not mean that the government may enact a statute in support of it..."

"In fact, it is because the nature of prayer is so personal and can have such a powerful effect on a community that the government may not use its authority to try to influence an individual's decision whether and when to pray," Crabb continued.

The judge is wrong. The founding fathers did many things to encourage people in their faith.

The law establishing the National Day of Prayer did not do anything to make people pray, it simply set aside a day to remember the importance of prayer in this nation and in the founding of the nation.

We recently saw the courts try to declare the National Day of Prayer unconstitutional.  It is time for us, the majority, to stand up.  This piece is going around on the internet. I wanted to post it so you can circulate it from our website to your email list. I'm not sure who wrote it, but it is certainly relevant.
