Time now to re-focus on putting Americans back to work

HOBBS, NM - Former Congressman Steve Pearce today issued the following statement following President Obama's Health Care Summit.

"There was a lot of hype leading up to the health care summit which was billed as an opportunity to 'seek common ground.'  However, the Congressional Democrats used the summit for a photo-op and an attempt to persuade Republicans to support the bill that has already been rejected by Congress and the American people.

"We saw a lot of anecdotal stories from the Democrats, but they seemed unprepared to discuss the underlying issues of the bill.  President Obama accused Republican leaders of using props that prevented them having a discussion when they brought out a copy of the health care bill.  It is hardly a political gimmick to have a copy of a bill present, when leaders have come together to discuss the legislation.

"I care about New Mexico families and the health care they receive, and believe that changes must be made to the current health care system, but this legislation is not going to impact our state and country in a positive way.

A National Park, the Park Service Is Not Sure It Wants...

The Washington Post wrote recently "Hours before President Obama urged members of Congress to show spending restraint Wednesday, the House voted to authorize spending as much as $50 million to create a national historic site in the U.S. Virgin Islands on beachfront land the National Park Service isn't yet sure it wants.

Republicans had blocked the bill last week, saying it was a bad use of money for a government bleeding cash, but Democrats pushed it through this week, saying they didn't want to lose the chance to acquire the land."

The nation is broke.  We are borrowing money from China to pay for daily operating expenses of the government and the Congress votes to spend $50 million on a park…that the Park Service has not indicated it wants.

Republicans edge Democrats by 10% in generic ballot

HOBBS, NM - Former Congressman Steve Pearce’s campaign today released an internal polling memo that shows Pearce with a lead over Congressman Harry Teague.

A recent poll conducted by the Tarrance Group shows that Pearce leads Teague 48% to 44%. The lead widens to 51% to 42% among the 88% of the electorate who knows both candidates.

The poll also showed that the political environment greatly favors Republicans in the 2nd Congressional District despite Democrats having a 12% registration advantage. The generic Congressional ballot has the Republican candidate ahead 47% to 37%.

The findings further showed Teague's vulnerability with only 38% saying Teague deserves re-election and 47% say it's time for a new person.

Former Border Patrol Agents declared that the Wilderness Bill (S.1689) proposed in Dona Ana County "is a danger to the security of the United States."

After detailing multiple problems that occur in similar border areas in Arizona, the former agents observe that, "Citizens of southern New Mexico should be aware of the consequences of such Congressional action." In other words, the citizens should be made aware that if Congress passes the bill, the United States but especially southern New Mexico will be less safe.

Violence is already spreading across the southern border. The wilderness will provide new corridors of access for drug trafficking and human smuggling.

In their letter to Senator Bingaman, the former border patrol agents write about problems in the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and other areas in Arizona where special use land has shown us the problems we can expect under his bill.

Living Constitutionalists claim that the Constitution implies Congress has the power to do things such as the “bail-outs” and “universal health care,” but actually they are stretching things quite a bit. They do this through the conflation of two different clauses (which they have misinterpreted).

These two clauses are found in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution. Section 8 begins with a statement about Congress’ taxation power and then strings several clauses below that:

“Congress shall have the power… to regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes.”

This is commonly referred to as the Commerce Clause.

They conflate the Commerce Clause with the later clause commonly referred to as the Necessary and Proper Clause:

“To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.”

Constitution
BY Steve Pearce, ON FEBRUARY 15, 2010

A fascinating discussion has been occurring on my Facebook page which ended up with comments about whether leaders of either party are knowingly trying to change the Constitution.

I cannot speak to intent, that is a matter of the heart but I can speak to actions.  I would refer you to the first days after Nancy Pelosi was sworn in as Speaker of the House, 2007, Jan or Feb...two votes which essentially changed the Constitution, not by the normal process of 2/3 vote in House and Senate, signed by the President then ratified by 3/4 of the States.

The changes happened as a result of rule changes on the floor of the House, simple majority votes.

They affected Article 1, Section 2, members of the House of Representatives.  One vote gave the delegate from D.C. a vote on the House floor.  That issue was specifically considered when our founding fathers were still alive they said to paraphrase,  "No, the intent was that the D.C. was not to be represented like a state."

Mother Teresa closed with these words at the1994 National Prayer Breakfast:

“From here, a sign of care for the weakest of the weak - the unborn child - must go out to the world. If you become a burning light of justice and peace in the world, then really you will be true to what the founders of this country stood for. God bless you!”

An atheist group, Freedom from Religion Foundation is actively urging their supporters to boycott the Mother Teresa stamp the U.S. Post Office plans to release August 26th. The stamp will recognize Mother Teresa on what would have been her 100th birthday for her humanitarian work that resulted in her being awarded the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize.
