The President mentioned several things in his State of the Union speech which I would be happy to work to pass.

President Obama Blamed Republicans For Blocking Progress.  What Is Actually Happening Is American Voters Are Blocking Progressives

It was a patented Obama speech.
The thing I am heard from Democrats last night is that he reached across the aisle. I heard the same words. America desperately needs this bipartisan effort. I want to believe the President.
The question is not about the words, but the meanings and the possibility that his words will happen.

Even More Voter Fraud Possible With Same Day Voting Legislation

Governor Richardson and the Democratic Party are stinging with the loss in Massachusetts and are trying to circumvent the will of voters to prevent further losses.A bill is currently making its way through the legislature in Santa Fe that would open the voting process up to more fraud by allowing same day voting. You can read the legislation in this file: HB0123.

Currently, New Mexicans can register to vote any time, with the exception of 28 days prior to an election. A vast majority of people, who want to participate in the electoral process, take the time to register to vote prior to the actual election.

We must stop same day voting and press our state lawmakers to pass a voter ID system.

Voter ID will go a long way toward reducing or eliminating voter fraud that we hear about in New Mexico after every election. Every citizen has the right to have their vote counted. They should not be denied that right because someone fraudulently voted using their name.

Says the focus must remain on creating jobs and tackling the deficit

HOBBS, NM – Former Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following remarks this evening in response to President Obama’s State of the Union address:

“The president proposed many spending programs now and savings in the future. This is the cycle that has created the deficit.   We need to cut spending, not just slow it.  The President must drastically change the path this Congress is going down in order to put our country back on the right track for economic stability.

The Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid led Democrats in Congress have spent recklessly.  This congress passed a trillion dollar stimulus that failed.  Passed job killing cap and trade legislation, and most recently passed a billion dollar government takeover of healthcare.    These are all bad policies that have moved the American economy backwards and have resulted in more jobs lost.

Health Care
BY Steve Pearce, ON JANUARY 26, 2010

I wanted to share this article posted today on DickMorris.com.  It is incredibly alarming that Democrat leaders are crafting a plan to subvert the legislative process.  I agree with Dick Morris and Eileen McGann in that this plan can be stopped, but those who are opposed to the health care bill, must speak up.

Pelosi and Reid Plot Secret Plan for Obamacare

By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN

Published on DickMorris.com on January 25, 2010

Highly informed sources on Capitol Hill have revealed to me details of the Democratic plan to sneak Obamacare through Congress, despite collapsing public approval for healthcare "reform" and disintegrating congressional support in the wake of Republican Scott Brown's victory in Massachusetts.

President Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid all have agreed to the basic framework of the plan.

Their plan is clever but can be stopped if opponents of radical healthcare reform act quickly and focus on a core group of 23 Democratic Congressman. If just a few of these 23 Democrats are "flipped" and decide to oppose the bill, the whole Obama-Pelosi-Reid stratagem falls apart.

Here's what I learned top Democrats are planning to implement.

Interesting column today by Charlie Cook.  He explains the dramatic shift in the political environment and the extent to which the Democrats "brand" is damaged.

Key excerpts:

Warnings began sounding last summer, and by now it seems impossible for Democrats to deny that something has gone terribly wrong for their party. In the year since President Obama's inauguration, their celebration has turned into a nightmare.

For Democrats, the first step toward recovery is admitting they have a problem: Over the past 12 months, they have badly damaged their brand.

Any Democrat with a pulse ought to be extremely alarmed by now: The same wave of independent voters that swept away the GOP's majorities in the House and Senate in 2006 could do the same to Democrats, at least in the House, this November 2.

An Ear-Splitting Alarm
Over the past 12 months, Democrats have badly damaged their brand.

Jobs continue to leave New Mexico

HOBBS, NM – The new jobless numbers for December released today serve as confirmation of what New Mexicans have been saying: ‘the jobs are just not here.’

According to numbers released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics unemployment in New Mexico jumped to 8.3% for the month of December, growing 3.6% in the last year. While the state average stays below 10%, in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District, unemployment is skyrocketing with Luna County at 17.8%, Grant County at 11.6%, and Catron County with 10.1% unemployment.

Congressman Harry Teague stated in a recent interview: “The bad economy has impacted some of rural America in a good way.” (“Teague visits Cibola County, again,” Cibola Beacon, 01/14/10)

“Congressman Teague is way off the mark. Families and small businesses all across Southern New Mexico continue to share stories about how they are struggling in this economy. They do not see the silver lining in job loss,” stated Alicia Collins, campaign spokeswoman.

Free Enterprise Beats Government Regulations & Creates Jobs

The extreme environmentalists paint conservatives as opposed to the environment.  That is simply not true, what we do support is a balance in the solutions.

The extremists want a Cap and Trade bill that will kill jobs.  Cap and Trade is a tax that, at a minimum, will cost the same amount as the Healthcare Bill.  At least $1 trillion, maybe as high as $3 trillion.  Those are big numbers. To put it in some sort of perspective, if you were trying to spend just one trillion dollars you would have to spend a million dollars a day - for more than 2740 years!  We simply cannot afford to spend that kind of money.

Tax increases kill jobs

The bigger the tax increase, the more jobs that are killed.  Generally, I believe the free market will solve the problems on their own.

Pearce says voters stopped liberals in their tracks

HOBBS, NM – Former Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following statement today in response to the Massachusetts election results:

“Massachusetts voters stopped liberals in Congress in their tracks. Voters do not want government health care.  The agenda of continually expanding the size of government and ignoring the real problems facing working families must end. Voters in Massachusetts and around the country are saying slow down, read the bill, try small incremental fixes that we can all understand.

This all started with a small grassroots movement. When people stand up and make some noise, they can make a difference.  So keep calling… keep writing… keep making your voice heard. It may not seem like it, but the politicians in Washington are listening.

The election results last night should serve as a wake-up call to change business as usual in Washington within both parties.  Congress has been too busy with partisan posturing and has forgotten that turning our economy around and creating jobs must be the top priority.
