Unemployment is up.  Families are hurting and having trouble paying their bills. The American Dream is in jeopardy for many right now.  Steve Pearce will fight to create jobs and get our economy moving.  His priority is not to make Wall Street rich, but to rebuild the small businesses on the Main Streets of southern New Mexico.  He will support policies that spark economic opportunity and create jobs.  And Steve Pearce will fight for legislation to rebuild our manufacturing base by encouraging manufacturers to come back to this country.

Putting Money Back in People’s Pockets…

You earn your paycheck and Congress needs to be a careful guardian of our tax money.  Sadly that’s not been the case.  Both Republicans and Democrats have spent too freely in Washington.  Steve Pearce has a strong record of fighting the big spenders and pushing for lower taxes on families and small business. Out-of-control government borrowing is driving up interest rates and squeezing the middle class.  China is getting the benefits of this deficit spending – not Americans.  That needs to change.  Pearce will work to stop expanding entitlements. We can’t keep making promises to spend more forever.  It just doesn’t work.  We have saddled ourselves with so many commitments that we actually need to worry about Medicare and Social Security being solvent.  There is a better way.

A Comprehensive Energy Strategy for our Future…

The cap-and-trade legislation being pushed through Congress is a disaster. Lobbyists pick favorites in the energy sector and reward their pals.  Meanwhile radical interests work to implement their ideas that will punish New Mexico with lost jobs and higher electrical bills, without even curbing our dependence on foreign oil.   Steve Pearce will encourage a broad approach that creates jobs and lowers the cost of energy for families and business.  We should increase the supply of domestic gas and oil, while also developing greener sources of energy like wind, solar and nuclear power.  We can protect our environment and reduce our dependence on foreign oil only if only we just start harnessing all our sources of energy.

Making Government Smaller, More Efficient and Better…

Everyone in Washington these days seems to think more government is the answer to our woes.  More spending, more taxes, more regulation and more nationalization of industries.  It’s time to remind everyone that the opposite is true.  In Congress, Steve Pearce was a member of WasteWatchers, the organization designed to help fight and reduce waste in government.  Pearce also earned a reputation for opposing many new government spending bills.  When Steve Pearce returns to Washington, he’ll work to reduce the size of government and fight back against the disturbing trend of government bailouts and nationalization of private industry.

Real Health Care Reform…

Finding affordable health care is a real concern for families in Southern New Mexico.  But a one-size-fits-all government-run health care system is not a solution. Steve Pearce’s agenda of reform starts with common sense changes that will lower costs and increase access. Pearce supports reforms including: allowing you to keep your insurance if you lose or change jobs, lawsuit abuse reform, and a ban on discriminating against pre-existing conditions.  In Congress, Pearce fought for Health Savings Accounts and helped pass the Medicare Prescription Drug benefit that lowered costs and saved money for millions of seniors.  He will continue fighting for better health care for New Mexicans when he returns to Congress.

Honoring and Protecting America’s Heroes…

The sacrifices made by America’s servicemen and servicewomen must never be forgotten.  A veteran himself, Steve Pearce takes this issue personally and very seriously.  While in Congress, Pearce helped enact the only fix in the concurrent receipts in over 100 years.  That change provided around $22 billion to more than 250,000 disabled veterans.  Pearce also fought to ease red tape that affects veterans in rural areas with limited access to VA facilities.  We can adjust the regulations to allow them to use VA benefits to get care outside the VA system when there is no facility nearby.  Men and women who have served and especially those serving now in Iraq and Afghanistan need to know that when they come home, there is a system that is going to look out for them.

A Strong America in a Dangerous World…

The United States’ armed forces have been the guardian of freedom throughout the world for decades.  The rise of radical Islam in recent years has brought a new threat to America.  Steve Pearce believes we must maintain a strong military that continues to be second to none. There is no doubt that our operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have had problems and that mistakes have been made.  Pearce supported the surge in Iraq that has led to the stabilization of that country and has opened the way for an intelligent draw down of American troops.  He will also support the opinions of the generals on the ground in Afghanistan as they work toward a solution in that important battleground in the War on Terror.

Respecting Others While Protecting America…

The people of southern New Mexico have dealt with the challenges of illegal immigration long before cable news was invented.  Most people can agree on a common set of principles that revolve around respect for people and upholding the law.  In Congress, Steve Pearce worked to put 4,000 new agents on America’s borders.  Pearce will work to secure the border, to streamline the broken immigration system, to ensure that guest workers who enter the country do so legally and he will encourage legal immigration.  We will respect people, but we will also insist the law be followed. Legal immigration has been an integral part of America’s development as a richly diverse nation.  Steve Pearce will work to continue the great traditions of our country while insisting that the laws of our land are upheld.

Staying True to our Nation’s Principles…

The Constitution is the single most important document in our civil lives.  Too often recently, we have strayed from its guiding principles. Politicians in Washington have gotten comfortable bending and twisting the Constitution to advance their political agendas.  We need to return to the concepts and wisdom that our forefathers bestowed upon us more than 200 years ago. The Constitution is our guardian as it:
• protects our freedom of speech, including against radical leftists who demand a so-called political correct nation
• protects our right to prayer and against the government halting expressions of faith
• protects our right to bear arms
• protects our right to property, despite what the Supreme Court said in its wrongheaded Kelo decision

Upholding Conservative New Mexico Values

No wonder many have declared there is a culture war in America.  With the attacks on traditional values growing by the day, we must stand up for our families, our religions, and our conservative principles. America was founded on principles we must uphold.  Pearce has a clear record on social issues and that is why in the past he has been supported by the Family Research Council and the Campaign for Working Families in addition to earning a 100% pro-life rating for his voting record.  In Washington, Steve Pearce will stand up for life, traditional marriage and religious freedom.

Investing in our Children’s Future…

Maintaining our status as a “shining city upon a hill” is dependent on our commitment to our children and their education. We need to raise standards and encourage choice and competition in our school systems.  In Congress, Steve Pearce successfully worked to strengthen teacher training programs and increase student loan forgiveness for many highly qualified teachers. He fought repeatedly to help schools in rural areas and those near military bases.  When he returns to Congress, he will continue to pursue an agenda of excellence and opportunity for our education system.
